Chocolate and silkscreen on cardboard box
Oreja RX, by Mexican artist Minerva Cuevas, is a sculpture that is part of her Feast and Famine series. This work features reproductions of dismembered ears crafted from cacao. Through this material—an element vital to the spiritual and cultural life of the Mayan people that is now part of the global export network—the piece references historical and current violence in Mexico and Latin America. The sculpture is presented packaged in an attractive gift box, emulating a sweet product designed for international consumption.
